An overseas enquiry can feel like a big opportunity. Before you accept an order, check that you can make and deliver the product as described, understand the buyer’s requirements and know which official export rules apply. Requirements differ by product and destination, especially for food, plants and other regulated goods.
Check the order before you price it
- Confirm the product, quantity, specification and delivery date in writing.
- Work out packaging, transport, insurance, payment and currency costs.
- Ask who is responsible for customs clearance and any destination charges.
- Check whether the buyer needs samples, labels, certificates or test results.
Use official trade support
The Economic Development Board’s SheTrades Mauritius Hub publishes training, export readiness and market access notices for women-led businesses. Programme dates and eligibility change, so check the current event or support notice. The Mauritius Trade Portal is a starting point for official trade procedures; verify requirements for your exact product and destination with the responsible authority.
Keep the business side ready
Save the enquiry, agreed quotation, supplier costs, payment terms and delivery record together. Keep the bank and bookkeeping records that show what the order cost and what the customer paid. If an order would strain your production or cash flow, price the extra time and working capital before accepting it.
Fam Antreprenan can help organise quotes, costs and business records as you prepare to grow. Export approvals and product-specific requirements must be confirmed with the relevant public agency.
