A grant application starts before you submit a form. First confirm that the scheme is open and that your business and proposed project fit its current rules. The SME Mauritius FAQ describes categories and contribution requirements, but the scheme page and administrator determine the details for each application.
Work out the full project cost
The FAQ says beneficiaries contribute a minimum of 20% of approved, itemised project costs. That means you should plan how your contribution will be funded and ask whether each proposed item qualifies. Do not assume that a grant pays cash to the business: the FAQ says payments under the relevant schemes are made directly to suppliers or service providers, subject to the programme’s terms.
Gather the paperwork the scheme asks for
- Current business registration and SME documents, if the scheme requests them.
- A written description of what the project will do and why it is needed.
- Itemised quotations from suppliers or service providers.
- The sales, turnover, employee or financial records required for your category.
- A simple record of your own contribution and the payment route.
Before you spend
Ask the administrator whether the supplier, quotation and item are acceptable, when approval becomes valid and how long it lasts. The SME FAQ says an approved scheme has a limited validity period. Get the current conditions in writing before ordering or paying. If the application is not approved, the business remains responsible for commitments it has made.
